Audio Playback Problem with OS X 10.10.4

• Jul 15, 2015 - 19:47

Since updating mac to OS X 10.10.4 I haven't been able to use play panel,
metronome, etc. in the Musescore program.

This playback function is very important to me to quickly check my
note entry. I have tried reinstalling the program but that didn't solve it.

I'm essentially unable to use Musescore 2.01 until I find a fix.

Thank you for any help.

Thanks for the suggestion. But when I did it nothing changed in the program, and the resulting messages in the terminal window looked ominous:

Does anything in that mean anything to anyone?

I just installed the update. Alas, it is the same. The playback button stays grayed-out in the menu and the play panel won't appear when selected.

Very frustrating. But it seems like no one else is having this problem. That makes me wonder...

Thanks. I just checked Preferences > IO, Is Portaudio selected? Which API
and device, etc, and the fields are blank. There is nothing to select.

Last night I reinstalled my os x system to make sure there wasn't a problem there. Still stumped.

Brian

Here's one last try to see if anyone can understand my problem. It seems significant that when I go to preferences, and in there select I/O, I see that PortAudio is selected, and right beneath that are three boxes: API, Device, and MIDI Input.

Those boxes are all greyed out, there is nothing to select in them.

Also, when I go to menu to View, and select play panel, no play panel comes up.

As I said before I have updated (more than once) to the latest Musescore 2.02. I have reinstalled (more than once) the latest Mac OS X 10.10.4

I will have to abandon Musescore which is a shame because I like it, and it took me a long time to know how to use it. I use it to transcribe obscure fiddle tunes from old recordings.

Thank you,

Brian

The revelant lines in the output are

Portaudio open stream 5 failed: Invalid number of channels
init PortAudio failed
Portaudio close stream failed: Invalid stream pointer

It seems portaudio fails to initialize. Number of channels is hardcoded in the code to 2. Is there something specific to your audio setup that is worth mentioning?

Thank you. I use a USB audio out to my stereo. To test your question I selected internal speaker In my system preferences (which has a terrible sound, and I never use) and then open Musescore, and the sound panel etc. is now all there.

Thank you again for helping me narrow this down. I am still in the dark as to why Musescore is the only program on my Mac to be affected by this. It seems M-Audio, the interface I use, has no knowledge of this issue and offers no updated driver. I will pursue it with them. Meanwhile perhaps somebody at Musescore can also address the problem if there is an easy fix for it.

Thanks again!

No help from from the company that makes my USB audio card, Behringer. Below is the message from them.

I'm glad to discover I can use Musescore with my external speakers off, just using the built in. That'll do for now. Maybe the next Musescore update will have a fix.

Thanks a lot for the help.

Dear Wood Brian,

Thank you for your email regarding the UCA202.

I am unfamiliar with Musescore, nor can I offer you Tech Support on non-BEHRINGER product. I suggst that you reach out to the publisher of Musescore for assistance on getting this interface to work with thier program.

I hope this helps!
