You mean in the main repository of Ubuntu?
It's more a question for the ubuntu forums. Ubuntu Wily 15.10 will be relesed on October 22 if the scheme is respected http://packages.ubuntu.com/wily/musescore
For older release, Ubuntu doesn't upgrade software in the main repository except some rare exceptions (Firefox?). So there is no way to get the latest version of any software via this channel. If you don't like this, choose another distribution.
If you don't mean via the main repository, then Ubuntu users are on their own and needs to rely on each other via Personal Package Archives (PPA). Currently I don't know any PPA containing MuseScore 2.0.2. The one we worked with previously was https://launchpad.net/~mscore-ubuntu/+archive/ubuntu/mscore-stable which contains MuseScore 2.0.0 for trusty(14.04), utopic (15.04) and vivid (15.04).
It makes your head spin and you want the latest version of any software quickly? I'm really sorry. Maybe it's time to choose another distribution...
Just a question (from a 100% ignorant mind): Some Linux software has a direct from the web way to download and load (via the "sudo apt-get install" command). Couldn't be last MuseScore version downloaded that way? From where? ???
Yep, for most programs you need to wait until ubuntu updates each six months. As mentioned, Firefox is one exception and currently appears to update roughly every few days. It's an ubuntu thing, not a MuseScore issue.
You will need to be running (l)ubuntu 15.04 or have the most recent libraries for certain dependencies and you should visit the Qt page to install the latest suitable version of that.
lasconic, minor correction: Utopic Unicorn is version 14.10, not 15.04.
Although I am mainly a Windows user now, I do have Linux MInt 17 (Qiana) (which is based on Ubuntu 14.04) on a secondary desktop. I am considering moving to Linux MInt 17 to my primary desktop also. (Yes, I know that Qiana is not the most recent release, but it is an LTS, and it is supported until April 2019.)
It would be nice if the mscore-stable PPA
was updated to include 2.0.2. I do understand that (1) version 2.0.2 was released not long ago, and (2) the good people at Musescore have a finite amount of time and resources. I guess if worst comes to worst, I could compile it myself. According to the compile instructions
, the tutorial also applies to Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty Tahr). Since Linux Mint 17 is based on Trusty Tahr, I assume that these instructions will work on Linux MInt 17 as well.
Seriously consider building it yourself. If you have ubuntu 15.04 you already have most of the dependencies and you just need to ensure that you have an up-to-date Qt (but watch for reported bugs in some version releases). I started to read this thread then started a new build of MuseScore and as I check just now it has reached 36% of Building. That's on a 5-year old machine with AMD Athlon II quad processor, 4 Gb RAM. A further quick check to confirm the CPU type and we're up to 46%.
The KX-Studio PPA has the latest released MuseScore version (2.0.2) and had it only a few days after release, so they must be on watch. See this post
for additional details.
I myself got it from there, having the KX-Studio repository on-board for other reasons, and it works nicely.

I use Lubuntu (Ubuntu) 15.04.

sudo apt-get install works with the datas of installed PPA. It's the underlying terminal command used by synaptic
