Synthesizer not showing
The selection box isn't greyed out, but when I click it, a checkmark shows up but nothing happens.

Find MuseScore.ini and edit it, remove the section for synthesizer

Do you know which folder it's in? I can't seem to find it.

Depends on your operating system - which are you on? It is most likely some sort of hidden folder where application settings are stored. Eg, "AppData" on Windows.

That was where it was, thank you :)
For the record - what probably happened is either you accidentally moved it all the way offscreen last time you used it, or your monitor configurations ahs changed since then such that the position you had moved it to no longer exists (ewg, you went from a dual monitor to single, or a high resolution monitor to a lower one).
If Marc is correct and you inadvertantly dragged it down off the screen at some point, you might be able to see the top edge of it by hitting CTL+U to go to 'full screen' view. If so, you can drag it back where it belongs. Unfortunately, simply restarting the program doesn't redock it to the default position.

I just deleted the SynthEditer (or something like that) part of the INI file and restarted Musescore; it was back to it's normal place again.
