Different notes.

Is there a way to reproduce this notation that I have put an example on this forum. I have found MuseScore to be marvelous in allowing me a freedom of expression, but this I have found to be a problem.
Is there a work round, our have I not so far in my exploration of the programme not found it?

Thank you stevebob, I managed to to the Job,
I have MuseScore 1.2 and Windows XP Pro.
I understand layers, I do digital animations but I found and that is relay what voices are but it was hard going.. Using voice 2 (layer 2) the notes seem to have a mind of there own. When I attempted to place a note in a particular place it would disappear, it took several attempts to add the notes and even then I needed to use the up down arrows to get them in the correct position. It seemed as if the courser had a mind of it's own.
It makes me wonder if there is something missing in the manual our that instruction sheet you recommended!

There is nothing particularly special about different voices with respect to note entry. I think your problem is with the notuion of attempting to "place a note in a particular place". In general, that's not how you do it, voices or no voices. MuseScore is designed to enter notes left to right, just like a text editor.
Think about it - you can't arbitrarily place a letter anywhere you want in Word - you just type and the letters come out left to right. Sure, you can move the cursor, but only to places where there are already letters, and then, again, when you start typing again, letters again come out left to right. If you want to place a letter near the right edge of the page, you have to type characters (maybe spaces) until you reach the right edge - you can't just click there and type.
MuseScore is the same way. By default, notes are entered left to right. You can move the cursor, but only to places where there are already notes (or rests). You can't just arbitrarily enter a note on beat three of measure seven - you have to enter notes (or rests) to reach that point.
This is true for each voice. Voices are completely independent - that's the whole idea. Even if a measure has something on beat three in one voice, that doesn't mean you can enter something directly on beat three in another voice - you still have to enter notes (or rests) left to right until you reach that position, just as you'd have to type characters in Word to reach the right edge of the page.
