Linked sextols or many eights, in two rows (please see pic!)

• Feb 17, 2017 - 18:04

Hi! I want to make sextols like in the pic. But how?

Not only sextols or triols, sometimes the left hand goes up to left hand row, and I want to not separate if it is several eights or so, as in pic.

Hope you know what I mean. MuseScore are available in my language, so I did not learn the correct Enlighs words, and google translate did not help very much.

you will want to hide the rests in the right hand as well. (select it and press v on an English keyboard or remove the check from visible in the inspector.

:D Thanks! I wondered for so long, but now I want not just to make one single of this, but copy the sheet I posted one sextiol from, and it is 58 beats of only this. ^_^

Can that move to another stave (sorry, I don't know the difference between staff and stave so maybe this was wrong, google pics looked the same) be made in another way than by short commands? I never remember them and use tools and menu (or check what the short command was, in the menu).

My second question really was the same thing, but my bad explaining in English ability was too bad.

Oh, I found a list of short commands there. Also great. Never looked at everything since it is sooo much.

But I was not able to get my question correct (but I keep getting useful tips about other stuff I wondered about :P).

I wondered if there are like "edit/note/move this to other stave" to be found, and make it with no short command. Sorry that my English is really lousy regarding a lot of terms. :/

You can select an entire sextet (you wrote sextiol) by clicking the first note and shift-click the last note. Copy and paste it where you like and it will keep the cross staff notes. (Staff is used in the United States and stave in England for the same thing). It is a little bit difficult to understand you, so I'll give a little clarification to make sure I don't miss something. You need to enter the sextets in the left hand and use ctrl-shift-up arrow to move the notes to the right hand. You can select the first note you want moved then shift click the last note to select consecutive notes to move, even if they are in different sextets. After you do this, MuseScore thinks all of these notes are still on the staff for the left hand, so you will copy them from the left hand to wherever you want them to go. If you paste them to a single staff or the right hand, none of the notes will be moved to another staff, since there is no staff to move them to. If you want to copy a sextet, you must copy an entire sextet (or several complete sextets) at a time, you will not be able to copy a portion of a sextet, and there will be no need to. You will need to decide what you want to do about the rests in the right hand. If they are the same in all the measures, then the rests will stay invisible if you copy and paste one measure to another. You can copy both hands at once. Just make sure you paste them into the right hand.

Thanks! And thanks for explaining staff/stave. ^_^

I know I am hard to understand :( I lack too many words for this. But now I think I have gotten all answers (and a bit more great things) I wondered about.

I will not forget the words stave/staff.

Thank you very much for all help. :)

My first notation program was in English only, and I couldn't really do anything since I didn't understand almost any of the terms but "note" and "clef". MuseScore has Swedish, so I did not learn all words in English but I am sure glad to have a great notation program.

I have a follow up question, since this happened (see pic). The measure got really long when I added the eight and bass clef in the first measure with this sextiols. The second has no clef change or other notes than the sextiol, and I can have two per row. I tried to shorten it in the two ways I know (space for measure where one can format many things, and "stretch" [or the opposite] under what is called style in my language), but it cant get shorter.

Are there a third way, or does one have to accept this?

I just started so there are not much in the score, but I attached it and you can see that the measure 3 takes the whole row, while the next one is much shorter. I also can shorten that even more, but not the first one (never mind the first row though, it is no problems there).

The tips you hade, works, but notes are getting smaller at the same time. I would like a way to shorten the measure only.

I found another way, in style/general/measure/least distance between notes

But it is strange that I have to do this, since next measure already has shorter distance between notes.

Since we only have one measure from the original score I will have to make an assumption that there is an eighth note on the first beat of each measure that is in the treble clef in the right hand. If this is the case, copying the left hand does not copy anything from the right hand, including the bass clef. This is in the right hand, so you will need to put all of the clefs in the right hand along with the eighth notes in the treble clef (if I'm correct).

Hi! There is not an eight first in every measure, the one is just the end of the intro, one can say. After that measure, there will be a lot of what measure 4 looks like, and just some shorter parts with the sextiols in left hand with chords in right hand. I attached the score in an answer above. But I just started so there are just a few measures.

You mentioned that there is no bass clef in the right hand in later measures. I explained that earlier. If there are no treble clef notes between the two bass clef notes, then there is no reason to put a bass clef before them. If there are treble clef notes in the right hand, you will need to put the bass clef back in the right hand the way you did in measure 3.

I believe my explanation of the bass clef was because I misunderstood what you were saying. You were trying to say that since the bass clef is not in the measure, it should be shorter, but it still only fits one measure to a line. As I explained, the two measures are too long to be on the same line with the settings in the sample you uploaded. As Shoichi suggested, I decreased the scaling, but only to 1.700mm, and two measures fit on a single line after I copied measure 4 to several more measures as a test. This amount does not shrink the notes much at all, but does put a lot of notes close together in a measure.

Thank you. This discussion gave me some new ways to shorten if needed. I never had any scores that couldn't be shortend by just shorten measures so I never had the need to look for other ways.

The only thing with MuseScore that I do not like, is that the menu is a bit chaotic, with functions here and there. One has to really learn and remeber where to find stuff, and functions that I think should be together, can be found at 3-4 different places.

Feel free to start a new thread and discuss what you feel to be opportunities for improvement in the menu arrangement. There are already a few changes here and there coming for future revisions. But msotly, once you learn the keyboard shortcuts for the commands you use most, you should barely need the menus at all.
