[Bug/Feature Request] Length of note stem too long when line space increased
Hello,
I am not sure if this would be classified as a bug or a feature request. I am currently creating a percussion score using staffs with only one to three lines each (not the standard five). I want to create more space between the lines in each staff. However, when I do create more line spacing using the staff-properties right-click option, the stems of the notes also increase, but way too much. Musescore assumes that every staff has the standard five lines and so it over compensates the note length when staffs have less. Perhaps, to get around this, an option could be added in the staff properties dialogue to not change the length of note stems when adjusting the line spacing (i.e., unlock the two). Another option would be to have Musescore calculate the increase in note-stem length based on how many actual lines are in the selected staff.
What are your thoughts on this?
Many Thanks,
Sam

Style-> General -> Notes: Shorten stems
No, shorten stems is for something else - it is to automatically shorten stems pointing outside the staff. For now you'd have to shorten the stems manually.
Unfortunately MuseScore 2.x does not do a great job on staves with non-standard line spacing. 3.0 will be better, but it's still a work in progress.

Thanks for the update. I wonder if there is a way to manually shorten the notes stems by doing a find and replace on a mscx (uncompressed) file with a basic text editor? I'll have a look.
I found a way :)
I hope it is useful for you:
(Do not change the line-spacing; That is, constant value:1)
1. On Staff properties: Scale 150% (Or some other value)
2. Select all notes
3. In inspector, Under Chord Section -> [v]Small (<-Checked)
Try it.

Thanks for your reply. However, when I select "small" under Chord Section, only the notes shrink not their stems.

Thanks Ziya for the screenshot. With it, I was able to duplicate the same effect. Very clever approach.
There are some elements such as the time signature and repeat measure sign which don't scale according to the chord or note small options. They tend to be relatively large. But still, your technique is good to know. Thanks again for taking the time to troubleshoot for me!
Same issue in Musescore 3. Now reported on Tracker. #288976: Bug: Stems too long when line distance increased on staffs with less than five lines.
