Midi File Help

• Aug 30, 2017 - 00:54

I've created a simple 8 measure piece using MusicScore version 2.1 and when I load that midi file into my Yamaha DGX-660, the score isn't the same. It's mostly OK, but there are differences, some significant. I also tried to load a midi file from the CD that came with the book "Alfred's Group Piano For Adults Book 2" and found that the score differed significantly.

I'm a newbie, so I'm not sure if this is a common occurrence or not.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Do you mean it doesn't sound (i.e. play back) the same

The score notation doesn't look the same in the onboard display screen of the DGX-660?
For example, the entire score is written on a single staff, instead of a treble clef + bass clef.

The later - the notes are all written on the treble clef. The chords in the bass clef were put in the treble clef with the 8va notation under them, and the treble clef's notes are pushed up an octave. It still sounds the same, however, so the keyboard isn't playing the notes it is displaying.

MIDI not a notation format - it only describes how music should sound, not how it should look. So unfortunately, there is no way to ensure a MIDI file will look any particular way when loaded into notation software.
