Repeats & Jumps: Da Capo al Segno

• Mar 14, 2018 - 17:27

Hi,

I'm working on an entire body of original songs and lead sheets in a very dogmatic way: no piece should extend beyond one A4 page. This puts some requirements on the 'Repeats & Jumps' section.

I would request that a simple 'Da Capo al Segno' (D.C. al Segno) be added as a function. This simple addition would give a tremendous amount of flexibility in terms of repeats, tags, etc.

As an example, I'd like to make the uploaded song follow this structure:
A B A B C A B –––> 33rd bar (last 3 bars on the page)

A simple solution would be to add 'D.C. al Segno' in bar 32, add a 'D.S.' in bar 22, and then add the 'Segno' sign to bar 33. (Just as an example, because in reality of course I would have to switch places between the Segno and Coda, since Coda should always come last).

Thanks!!

Thanks, that's a really clean solution for sure! Originally I didn't want to push the 2nd Ending over to the C part after B for aesthetic reasons (but maybe that's just my pedantic brain doing its nasty work). I think I'll stick with this solution now though. Thanks a lot mike320!

I attached the final score, slightly edited.

On a side note, I still think it'd be nice to see the 'D.C. al Segno' added to musescore2 at some point, as it's a fairly simple thing, but can be quite useful.

I've never heard of a D.C. al Segno. If it existed it would do the exact thing that D.C. al Coda does. This does not apply to your score, but if you were in need of multiple independent D.C. al Coda's (or even D.S. al Coda's) there are ways to do those already. MuseScore will probably understand the jumps better than many musicians.
