How do I modify the opacity of invisible elements?
I would make the colour of my canvas greyer, but it makes everything else non-invisible difficult to read.

opacity of invisible elements/non-invisible?
Instead of making some elements invisible, use Inspector to change their color?

Oops, I wasn't clear: Items set invisible are greyed-out, but the level of greyness to me is slightly distracting and not to my liking. I found that changing the canvas makes them less of a trouble, but it must mean that the rest of the music (which are not invisible; therefore visible things) unfit for view. I understand that these are not carried over to the print, but I nevertheless I would want to modify the interface.

Not that I know of. You can however turn them off entirely via View / Show Invisible.
