MIDI output only to device instead of SF Synth + Device Out

• May 23, 2018 - 16:54

Title says it pretty much. I want to know if there's a way to only send MIDI to an external device. Said device has speakers and can play its own sounds fine, but when I press play on MuseScore, it plays sound both using the included Soundfont and sending MIDI to the external device as well. In the options, there's no way to only select the MIDI device for output and all options available include the internal synth as well, which kind of defeats the purpose IMO.

Is there a way of doing that without having to add extra overhead and complication with a JACK setup on Windows?

  1. Open the Synthesizer window,
  2. in the Fluid Tab: Select a soundfont, and press the "Delete" button. (If have more than one, do this for each one.)
  3. When the Synthesizer window is completely empty, click the "Set as default" button.

After this step: Musescore no longer plays any sound with SF2 SoundFont. It sends only the MIDI signal to external device. (if you have already set it in Preferences)

Notice: (In Synthesizer window) pressing the "Delete" button doesn't psychically delete the soundfonts on the hard disk. It just removes it from the list there. You can then add the same SoundFont back using the "Add" button.
