instruments in MuseScore
How do you change an instrument in a staff? The 'Change Instrument' option in Staff Properties affects both staves in a two-staff setup. It also sees fit to change the clef on occasion. I want to change the instrument on one voice in one staff, without altering the clef.

The "Change instrument" option changes the current instrument, it that has 2 staves, like Piano it of course changes both. And it changes to the staff that instrument normally uses.
Voice is something entirely different on(in MuseScore, you can have up to 4 in any staff
Seems what you need it Add instrument, copy/paste the notes across, delete a staff

Thanks I'll try that. I have been trying to insert tempo and instrument info from the Palettes menu, as per tutorial clips. It doesn't happen. As I move the selected item off the Palette box, a "no go" symbol appears (crossed circle), and although the selected item moves to the indicated position, it does not stay there, and the operation has no effect.

Select measure or note, double click Tempo or Instrument (change text) on the palette
Or drag them from the palette into a measure (until it highlights) or onto a note or rest (until that highlights)

Thanks again, your replies are very prompt and to the point. I must say that these procedures are somewhat less than intuitive, and the clip I watched (How to #1 Musescore instruments) did not make the double-click clear. Still, it's an impressive piece of software, and I'm learning. I'll get it in time.
