Could it be that your check was executed during the release of beta3? It is working for me now, but your report post isn't too far of from the update release post…

Which is an entirely different issue...
Just now, with the new beta, I could update all language (it were only very few though)

The language update and the program update are indeed different issues.
I'm also pretty sure they'd have diferent root causes, but won't give my right arm for that :-)
Both work for me just fine right now. There is no French translations update available for the new beta (released today)

I guess certainly on different servers, etc.
But language update exist for French language :

Ah, I see, after deleting all first. I didn't get a French update offered becaues I did one earlier today.

Unrelated issue ? May be, but I am pretty sure they have a similar root cause.

Same error again today.
And, yes, my internet connection is working.
Not "the" issue, but is becoming annoying.
