adding another voice

• Feb 6, 2019 - 19:27

I tried to add using the note symbol and ctrl. back cursor. It added, but put the bass note in between each note I added. I needed an eighth rest at the beginning of measure, but even using the rest symbol, it didn't work. I will read over the material again, but if there's another answer or if another way to explain, I would love to hear. I can't add another staff, by the way, as one person suggested, as I would have to change the whole piece. Thanks.

That page is comically unhelpful. You need a PhD to understand any of that. And nowhere does it mention adding a second voice. Only entering notes into a different voice. If you have a single voice, and follow it's instructions to enter notes for a second voice, it creates a new first voice with rests, then enters your note into a third voice...

Not sure which part of the page you are trying to read, but I guess probably it's not the part that explain whatever it is you are trying to do, and thus it is showing you how to do something else.

If you continue to have problems, please explain in more detail. Best to attach your score, say exactly what you are trying to accomplish, what steps you are following, and what goes wrong when you follow those steps. Then we can understand and assist better.

But for the record, I don't understand the distinction you are making between "adding a second voice" and "entering notes into a different voice". Entering notes into voice 2 is adding a second voice. There is no difference I can see. And entering notes into voice 2 most certainly does not create a third voice.

To enter a note in other than voice 1 you must be in note input mode, you can then select the voice and enter notes just like in voice 1.
