Streching measures

• Feb 26, 2019 - 16:14

in the middle of the score there is a line with only 2 measures and it is spread out. The other lines contain 3 measures. I want to shift a measure from the next line into the 2-measure line . How can I do this?

You have system breaks that dictate the number of measures per system. Right click any system break and choose select>all similar items and press delete to get rid of them. You can then use Edit->Tools->Add/Remove system breaks and set them to every 3 measures.

Doing this will reveal that you have lengthened your voltas wrong. If you double click your existing voltas, you will see the red line is drawn to the end of the first measure. You score, no doubt, plays back wrong and you didn't know how to fix it. There are two ways to properly insert almost anything from the lines palette. First, Select the first note affected, then shift+click the last note and double click the line in the palette to insert it. The second way to fix an existing line/slur is to double click the line/slur on the score, make sure the end you want to adjust is selected (blue) and use shift+arrows to move the end left or right. Since voltas always cover an entire measure, the arrows move the end a measure at a time, while most other lines are adjusted a note at a time. The red line will update it's position as you do this. Dragging things is always a bad idea and give results like what you will see before you fix the voltas.
