I'm always able to zoom out using ctrl - , however zooming in using ctrl + as is the normal standard doesn't work after you've zoomed out at least once. This is limiting the user experience as the preset zooms at the top aren't appropriate for all scores at all times.

What is the work around?
Workaround is to redefine the shortcut in Edit / Preferences, I imagine.
Ctrl+ doesn't work on a number of keyboards, mine included, probably because it gets reinterpreted before we get our hands on it as Ctrl+Shift+=. I therefore usually customize mine to Ctrl+=
