Playback with multiple voltas in different places in a repeat
I'm writing a drumline score where one of the repeated parts have alternate versions of both the first and the last measure of the part. It is easy enough to get the visual notation correct (see attached image), but I cannot get the playback to be correct.
The two voltas marked with "1." should be played the first time through, and the two voltas marked with "2." should be played the second time. I have experimented with different variations of setting the "Repeat list" for each volta, setting the repeat count, and also placing the starting repeat barline inside the 2nd measure instead of the 1st etc., but I can't seem to get the playback correct.
What is currently happening with the playback is that it starts directly in the 1st 2.-volta (measure 2), and then at the end completely skips the last 1.-volta (and thus the whole repeat) and goes directly to the 2nd 2.-volta (if that way of describing it makes any sense...).
Is what I'm trying to do at all possible?

Voltas are alternative endings, not alternative starts.

However, musicians often use some starting variations to some repeated section.
Of course, that is not a "Volta".
Maybe... "Intro"???
But, I don't know if MuseScore lets us to divide the score into sections like that...

You could put the contents of volta 1 (start) before the repeat then put the contents of volta 2 (start) as the second measure of volta 1 (end) and you would have the playback you want.

Thank you for your suggestion, that was exactly what I ended up doing.
I do however have another part of the score where there are two measures in the middle that are to be played slightly different the 1st and 2nd time, and there I do not see any feasible option for getting both the notation and playback correct (without writing the whole thing out twice, without the repeat).

You are correct. That's the only way to do it.
