Trouble with less-thans and greater-than escapes in Markdown pages here

I've tried both ampersand-l-t-semicolon and backslash-lessthan with no success. I can't get them to display. Please look at https://musescore.org/en/node/270844 for lt; and gt; and tell me what I'm doing wrong, thanks.

All loose ends are now tied up in that document, but touchup is still a possibility, and it may be so large that it should be broken up (yes? no?), don't know how to do that (create new "manual page").
