underscore under notes
I'm making a note reading worksheet for my students. Is there an easy way to get decent sized lines underneath each note for the purpose of the student writing in the note names?

You mean something like: Ctrl+L->Ctrl+Spacebar->Ctrl+_?

That's perfect, thank you! I tried that before, but for some reason didn't realize I needed to do ctrl-space for each note. Now that I'm doing ctrl-space for each underscore, it looks great!

Actually, one problem. I can't get an underscore to go under the last note of the score with this method. Is there a trick to it?

Ctrl+T->underscore;
By Inspector uncheck automatic placement, move it

Instead of disabling autoplace and moving the text manually, just press "X" to move an element from above to below.

Or manually adjust after flipping with "X", still no need to disable autoplace.
A better option might be to use Ctrl+_ as a lyrics.

That does not work for Mac. Cmd+L -> Opt+Shift+"-" -> Shift+"-" Shift+"-" Shift+"-" produces the attached. The Underscore character entered (Opt+Shift+"-" ) and the extended line ( produced by Shift+"-") do not connect, either. Underscore and the line extension does not work very well on Mac???

Lyrics works different than regular text - the hyphen and underscore both have special meanings. If you're just trying to create a line under a note, use ordinary staff text as explained previously. Or if you're trying to create a line under several notes, use the Lines palette.
