having trouble typing out music
the sheet music I want to type out in musescore has a time signature of 2/4 but the first bar only shows two semi quavers and then the next bar is normal with notes adding up to two beats . how do I type that 1st bar out ?

Semi quaver is 16th, right? 2 of them make up for a 8th, so that score seems to start with an 8th pickup measure or anacrusis.
So when creating a new score, don't tell the wizard to start with a pickup measure.
If it is too late, right-click into it > Measure properties > change actual duration to match nominal duration and make sure 'Exclude from measure count' is not ticked.

make sure 'Exclude from measure count' is not ticked
I think you mean make sure it's marked since pickup measures are no usually counted.

No, as here there we want to get rid of the pickup measure

One of us is very confused.
Pickup measures aren't counted. To prevent the pickup measure from being counted you put a check in the box next to "Exclude from measure count" What am I missing? The user wanted to make his first measure a pickup measure. You even did the complex British math to come up with the proper duration.

So the OP apparently has a pickup measure but doesn't want that. At least that's my interpretation
Hmm, on 2nd (or rather 4th) thought maybe not. Well, if so the exact oposite of my 1st reply applies ;-)
