tuning changes not implemented

• Jan 7, 2020 - 21:51

I've been following the manual (Musescore3, downloaded 6th Jan 2020, Windows 10), and the string data window looks as described, but the tuning changes aren't implemented and the tabs remain as the default. I'm trying to modify the banjo tuning option to write for a 4 course renaissance cittern tuned to D4,B3,G3,G4 now, but would ultimately like to get up to using Musescore fo my 10-course lute too. Am I missing something obious? Everything else I want to do so far seems to work ok.

You have first, in String Data, to remove the 5th string, and change the tuning of others (when necessary)
And, to complete: right-click TAB staff -> Staff Properties -> Reduce the TAB to 4 lines (see it at the top of the window) -> Ok
So, now, you have a score for banjo (here with linked staff): Banjo.mscz
And a score/Template for a 4-course Renaissance cittern : 4 course cittern.mscz

This is what almost I think I've done, but it remains standard 4 string banjo tuning. I've also tried deleting the 4th string from the 5 string banjo option (which would give the same result as changing the 4th string for this instrument, but always give 5 strings in the tab).
I can't work out how to edit string data before the tab is in place as advised above, so am doing the process in reverse, and it is isn't saving the changes. Is there a 'save staff propertie's option as nothing is showing on my screen - I've just got to close the staff properties window.
The file Cadiz 1 sent has half solved the problem (many thanks!). I've now got a file I can work with, but I still can't create new intrument template or do it myself.
I've attached a file...
Got to say Musescore's really good for the banjo though!

Which banjo and tuning you wish exactly?

In the New Score Wizard, you can select a Tenor Banjo (C3/G3/D4/A4)
And/or Irish tenor banjo (G2/D3/A3/E4)
(so specific tuning for each one, but both 4 strings)

Banjo is fine - 4 or 5 strings, as is everything else listed that I've tried. It's setting up the tab for unlisted instruments that is a problem.
(I've deliberately tuned the cittern like my 5-string banjo without the bottom D to make it easy to play without barre cords as I'm waiting for carpal tunnel surgery - I'll be back to 10-course lute after that)
