song wont play
the play button is grayed out and i cant use it. i tried resetting to factory settings and it did not help

I tried that already. View-> synthesizer was disabled so I reset to factory settings and it is still disabled

If you read that aritcle you will see quite a few other suggestions. If you've tried literally all of them, we'd need you to tell us which OS and what the exact behavior was for each of the things you tried so we can understand your particular system better.
