Voices

Hi- I have a piece which has 2 voices. Is it possible to-

a) display only voice 1 or voice 2 separately;

b) play either voice separately;

c) print either voice separately.

All help appreciated,

Many thanks

Don

Normally this would be done with separate *staves* rather than separated *voices* (which by definitin use the same staff). If you do it that way, then this is all handled automatically when you generate parts (File / Parts). If you do really need to do this with separate voices on a single staff, you'll have to do this manually, but sure, it's possible. You can, for example, Ctrl+A to select all, use View / Selection Filter to exclude a voice from the selection, then either use the Inspector to silence the selected voice or make it invisible or copy it to another staff temporarily to make it easier to work with, etc.

If you attach your specific score and describe in more detail what you are trying to do and why, someone can probably advise you further.

Hi Marc- many thanks for your good comments. I suspected that was the case and had tried the selection filter, hiding etc and was still trying to see if there might be a shortcut. I had been taken with the description: "a musical line or part which can have its own rhythm independently of other voices on the same staff" as well as "Voices are sometimes called 'layers' in other notation" and had sort of hoped that you could choose to hide and show layers as per CAD programs.

Not to bother anymore I will go to separate staves if needed.

Once again, many thanks for your quick and helpful response,

Regards

Don

You could generate the part for the 2-voice staff twice, and in one othem hide and make silent voice 1, and in the other hide and make silent voice 2. On top swap stem directions as per normal rules. Quite some work...
This is why we have it as a proposal for this year's GSoC, so maybe we have a solution for this after the summer

I have a music notation called Noteworthy that I have been using for many years. For the last 6 years I have had an iMac so that I have had to install Windows in Virtual Box to use the software. Musescore is compatible but there are some significant differences.

Today I tried downloading the score for a hymn written for organ. I have tried Edit/Voices/Exchange Voices 1-2 but the only way to delete the 2nd 'voice' so far has been to replace individual notes with rests. How can I delete them instead and, if I want to edit a chord for example how can I delete individual notes?

I note that you talked about simplifying the process last Spring. I have version 2.0.3.1
