Short systems?

Is there a way to control whether a system extends all the way across the page (as normal), or only as much as its measures require (i.e., as when the score is too short to even fit once across the page)?

I would like many short systems for a page of short musical examples

You need to click on Style>General>Page and adjust the "Last system fill threshold" you will find on that dialogue panel. This parameter controls whether the last system in a score (or on page, if you have inserted hard page breaks) will stretch out to fill the entire width of the page or not.

The parameter is a percentage of total page width. If you want most of your stuff to be set flush left--IOW, if you DON'T want it to stretch out to fill the whole page width--set the parameter to a high number, such as 70% or 80%, which will cause ONLY those last systems which would normally fill more than 70% or 80% to expand to fill 100% of the page width. Any system shorter than that length will be set flush left, without being stretched.
