Add Lyrics to a pause

• Apr 18, 2016 - 07:29

Hello,

currently I need to add a second voice with invisible notes in order to add lyrics to a measure wich is completely paused (see //musescore.org/en/node/106286 ).

Is it possible to implement the feature to add text directely to paueses as well?

Thank you very much,
Michael

You are right. But I'm desperately looking for a software to help me creating lead sheets for guitar with as little effort and work arounds as possible.

I need the chord sequence of the diferrent parts, somtimes a fretboard diagramm or specific guitar lick, the text for orientation and finaly the complete song structure. But I do not need to play back theses sheets or all instruments to be in there.

So far MuseScore 2 is the closest to what I'm looking for. And there seems to be the opportunity to impact development. That's why I'm posting this request.

Thanks,
Michael

I'm attaching instructions for the left hand of the accordeon as lyrics to notes (notes of the right hand) because it is extremely convenient: as lyric the text is automatic correctly placed.
When the right hand has a rest, I also need to use a hidden second voice to attach lyric ... so + 1 for this request ;-)

Use staff text. Or use a custom text style, derived from staff text.

Sorry, but is you see a counter argument in a discussion as discurraging to use MuseScore, there's not much I can to to change this, other than to say that this is neither my intention nor the purpose of a discussion in a forum.

In my opinion using lyrics to do something entirely different with them is misusing a feature. Extending the feature to allow more misuses in, in my opinions, just wrong. And it it distrubs the normal use of that feature it is just bad. I would not want MuseScore to advance to a rest when I'm inputting lyrics, pressing -, _ or space.

as I wrote (might have crossed with your's) advancing to a rest in lyrics entry mode via the normal space, dash or underscore is an absolute nogo in my opinion, as it is completly counter the intent of lyrics entry.

But no it won't work in staff text entry either currently. There in turn it might indeed make some sense to have a mode to advance to the next chord or rest. It won't be the space bar to trigger that though, as spaces are perfectly legal in staff text. Maybe just right/left arrow could be made to do this.

'I would not want MuseScore to advance to a rest when I'm inputting lyrics, pressing -, _ or space.'

Totally agree!

What we need is a way to attach text to any musical symbol without need to select each and every symbol individually.

That could be lyric text with a special option to advance to rest (shift space if not already used?) or another way, whatever.

Fair enough. Still "misuse" has generated some of the important steps in technology...

Maybe let me put it that way: I would like to enter lyrics over a couple of measures, some of which may have an entire pause. I could misuse staff/system text or a second voice (which for the rest of my project may be empty). I agree that this shouldn't be the dafault, but it would be handy option in some usecases.

Michael

Sorry, I skipped that.
But I think this is such an easy workaround, that I won't vote for introducing such a function to lyrics - even facultative -, that normally isn't needed.

Anyway I can imagine what makes such a thought interesting:
You can input text from note to note and it will automatically change the formatting of the musical text.
The latter is missing, when using other text possibilities, which could be attached to all musical signs including rests - the text will always overlap, if the distance is not changed manually. Also inputting is much more difficult.

So it could be an alternative, and this I would support, to establish a sort of musical sign text, that can be attached to all musical signs, formats like lyrics do (avoiding overlapping automatically) and can be handled in a way similar to lyrics by hopping from text to text.

And BTW, why shouldn't "note line texts", "system texts", "exercise marks" etc. have the functionality to go from one to the next occurance by cursor left and right?
