Tenuto legato

Hello - I'm guessing that TENUTO is the closest thing you have to LEGATO - Similar but not the exact same thing , yes ?

"Tenuto" most normally refers to the name of a *marking* that appears in the score - a short horizontal line above/below a note. "Legato" is the term for what the musician *does* when they *see* a "tenuto" marking - hold the note out its full value in a context when you otherwise might not. But legato might also be what you do in other contexts as well (eg, when you see a slur, or if the word "legato" appears in the music, or it might be how you play by default, depending on the instrument and the style of music).
