How can I duplicate lyrics?

• Jul 20, 2011 - 15:42

I am writing SATB, with each voice on a separate stave. Is it possible to write the lyrics for soprano, and then copy and paste them to the other three voices? Also, how do I change the distance below the stave that the lyrics appear?

Write the lyrics in a text editor and put space between the sylable. Select the first note of your melody, press Ctrl + L, and Ctrl+V, Ctrl + V etc...

To increase the margin below lyrics, see Style -> Edit general style -> Page -> Margin below lyrics.

When Ctrl-V is pressed to paste a syllable from a clipboard-ed text, after pasting the cursor unconditionally moves to next note; however, a dash or an underscore are often needed on the syllable before moving to next note.

Is there a way to have the cursor to remain on the same note after pasting, so dashes or underscores can be added when needed?

text editor as described, and you can copy and paste them in bulk within MuseScore along with their associated music.

So, one way to do your job woud be to enter the music for one part, apply the lyrics from the text editor to it, and then copy both music and lyrics to the other three parts. Then you'd have to go back and replace the music with the right notes for the other three singers. Drag the notes vertically with the mouse, because entering new notes blows away the lyrics. They're easy to fix if you happen to accidentally kill a syllable here or there.

It's a tradeoff, the music may be easier to enter via a MIDI or computer keyboard, but mouse moving the notes saves you re-entering all the words three more times syllable by syllable.
