MuseScore for Hexagram

• Jul 27, 2011 - 10:51

My Chinese master of Tai Chi (Mr. Wu Dao-Gong) is also a violinist and he is trying to promote
the use of the hexagram instead of using the pentagram ( all related info at
http://www.musicalhexagram.com ).

I'd like to help him, and try with you (I'm not really a programmer, but a
sistems engineer) to develop an extension or a new version of the MuseScore,
that can use this notation instead of the classical (all the musicians I've
asked they say it is very advantageous compared to the pentagram) and is able
to convert from pentagram to hexagram.
I hope to spark interest in someone!!

You can create 6-line staves easily (handbook says 1-9 lines are supported):

  1. Create a staff for any instrument
  2. Right-click on an empty space in the staff
  3. Select Staff Properties...
  4. Change the number in the Lines box

Edit: Well, this creates 6 lines but new lines are added below existing ones so in a staff with treble clef, C will be on the first line which is not what I saw on the page you linked.

5. To have the G in the second of the 6 lines (i.e. on the first of the original 5-line stave), you may use the G clef in the first line (a.k.a. "French clef", as it was used a lot in French flute music of end XVII - early XVIII).

Thank you for your interest, I will have a meeting tonight with a musician friend who is helping me , so, I do not know if the solution is already acceptable, but, with your help, I can illustrate a good starting point.
I keep you informed
