Deafault to 17 bars per line why

when i open a new score, it gives me 32 bars split into two micro small lines, squashed into the top of the page, instead of four bars per line in a normal size, please help

17 happens to be the number of *empty* bars that fit across a standard-sized page. As you enter notes into those measures, though, the measures expand, so fewer measures will fit. MuseScore handles all this for you, so you should never normally need to do anything special.

Four bars per line is not "normal", though - normal is for as many measures per line as can fit. There are only a few specific situations where music is forced to four bars per line - children's books, some fake books, some educational materials. If you are dealing with one of those special situaitons where you really do want to limit it to four bars per line even though more will fit, just use Edit / Tools / Add/Remove Line Breaks, or add the breaks manually, as mentioned above.
