incorrect grouping in pickup measure?
When I create a score in 4/4 timing and add a 3/8 pickup measure, the default rests in the pickup measure are a quarter-note followed by an eighth-note, as if they were the first three eighth-notes of a measure. I think that they should be an eighth-note followed by a quarter-note, as if they were the last three eighth-notes of the measure.
Does this seem reasonable?

Yes, for pickup measures specifically, this seems to make sense. However, for most *other* cases of measures with actual duration not equal to the nominal, it does not make sense. While it is theorewtically possible for MuseScore to special-case the first measure of your score, I can't say I'm super comfortable with the sense of unpredictability this would lead to - same actions prdocuing different results depending on where you are in the score.
Anyhow, hopefully you realize you can enter the rests yourself rather than depend on the default rests.

Relatedly (see example below): In 6/8 if you have a crotchet and rests in a measure MS will put a half rest (should be 1/8, 1/4, 1/8). Similarly the pattern dotted crotchet, quaver, rest will get a quarter rest (should be 1/8, 1/8). Finally a dotted crotched will be followed by 1/8, 1/4 rests when the pattern ought to be reversed. In short Musescore incorrectly treats 6/8 as if it were 3/4.
Unfortunately this problem does not occur just once in a score like an upbeat measure. Hand correcting this is kind of slowing you down as you typeset.

Yes, see #4867: Rests in measures should be grouped according to time signature. But note, normally you would simply be entering music left to right anyhow; you wouldn't normally be relying that much on the rests MuseScore enters for you. Looked at another way, it doesn
t enter notes for you, it seems odd to expect it to enter rests for you too (in fact, some complain that it does that at all). So if you get in the mindset that rests are your responsibility to enter just as surely as notes are, it doesn't seem so problematic. But sure, if MuseScore can save a little more time here and there, that would be better.
