Acciaccatura - plays like an appoggiatura and is not "tied" to the principle note on the score
Acciaccatura should be a "crushed" note to be played as quickly as possible and with no value but it actually plays with a significant value of the principal note i.e. as if it is an appoggiatura.
For example, an acciaccatura linked to a quaver principle note will in fact play acceptably as "crushed". BUT if you then change the principle note value from a quaver to, say, a dotted minim, you will hear that the "appoggiatura" has now lengthened to sound like a quaver!
Also both acciaccatura and appoggiatura should be marked on the score with a tiny "tie" mark to bind it to the principal note but Musescore does not add this tie and does not allow a tie to be added onto the score.
Thanks.

I did a little research recently - I'm not sure all forms of grace notes always have a tie to the main note.
I do agree playback isn't correct, but just waited incase Werner would implement something that controls playback of them (if it applies to grace notes).

You may be right. Most scores I've looked at do have a tie (e.g. Bach 48) but not all (e.g. Chopin piano Waltzes) - but the option would be nice to have!

This is the important issue! Surely playback must apply to grace notes. Note values are important - otherwise why bother having a playback facility? Does your reply mean you're checking with Werner that this is an accepted issue and that it is scheduled to be corrected and, if so, when?
Thanks for your help.

I think if you want to tie a grace note, just select the latter and tie?
I've seen one or two issues about the subject, but haven't read much into them (might not be related?) - I don't think I've asked or posted about it. Could someone (Lasconic or Werner?) explain what will happen?

There are indeed several issues opened for grace notes like #4993: Normal note duration too short when tied to grace note.
There is never a tie between a note and grace notes. It's a slur and you can add it by select the grace notes and press S.
The bug might already be fixed in the trunk for next version of MuseScore. You can try a nightly if you want. See [[nodetitle:Comparison of stable, prerelease, and nightly builds]] .
There is no deadline for next version, or for fixing bugs. The fastest way to have an issue fixed, it's to do it yourself. MuseScore is open source and all contributions are welcome.

Many thanks for correcting my error and providing the solution!

I'm happy that the duration issue has been flagged for future correction.

Understood, but with no experience and ability at basic HTML level I don't believe this is a realistic option for me.
Thanks for your help.
