Ledger lines with standard TAB?

• Sep 8, 2016 - 13:49

I have read through the topics of lute TAB, but don't believe the discussions I've found address my specific question.

I a writing guitar tab for extended range guitar, and would prefer to maintain the standard 6 string TAB format and add ledger lines for additional bass strings when they occur. For example a 7th string 5th fret would be shown with a ledger line similar to that of middle C in the treble clef, but with the 5th fret number written over it.

Is there a staff configuration I can set to allow this entry?

Indeed, this feature was merged ago over a year (mid August 2015): https://musescore.org/en/node/67261
Unfortunately, it is not available for this version 2.0.3 (for compatibility reasons, if I well understood the explanations). For the next major release of MuseScore, it will be.

You can try this feature in the nightlies. Beware though, they are really unstable for now, and therefore, for the purpose you need (adding a seventh string, but with the format of a Tab 6 lines), I advise to proceed to simple tests, not for personal working.

EDIT: notice this notation is for historical tabs. Don't know exactly your purpose?
