Different dynamic on repeat

Is there a way to have different 1st time-2nd time dynamics on a repeated section? (e.g. pp-ff: pianissimo first time through, fortissimo on the repeat)

You have two options:

1. Write the passage out at full length without repeats (copy/paste is the easy way to do this), or

2. Use 1st and 2nd voltas.

It is not uncommon for repeated sections to require different interpretations or instrumentation. For instance, a solo which is played by the bass viol the first time, but has the tenor join it for the repeat. This can be notated in either of the two manners indicated above. Often, just writing the music out full length without repeats is the easiest method, but it depends on the structure of your composition.

There is a modern convention of using a text note to give the players such instructions as 'second time only,' but AFAIK, those 'staff text' instructions do not have any effect on playback in MuseScore, so you won't necessarily hear what you're actually written.
