Is it possible to edit instrument names?
Somehow I accidentally deleted an instrument name on the first page. A few days ago it seemed to allow me to "edit element" so I could shorten the name - but it doesn't now, so I'm not sure how that happened. I guess the question is, what are the options for editing instrument names, either globally or on a particular page?

Right click on an empty part of the staff, then under 'Staff Properties' you will be able to change the instrument name.

But I still cannot rename a part on the part tabs once I have set it up. I have made a spelling error and want to correct. No way in...

Open the mscz with 7zip, extract the mscx file, open that with a text editor, search the wrong string, fix it (may be in more than once), save, close, copy the modified mszx back into the mscz (again via 7zip).
There is an open feature request to make this possible in a suported and user-friendly way: #10728: Add ability to rename part titles after creation

Silly question, perhaps...but wouldn't it be easier to delete the part and create a new one (with the proper spelling)? ;o)

Depends on how much customization had been done to the part already

Ah, quite true. Some parts take a lot of tweaking to get them laid-out properly. A lot of that could be preserved using copy/paste, but IIRC there are still a few things which don't get saved to the clipboard.

I was hoping for a "right click" and "rename". But thank you for your help.
