Musescore refusing to open AT ALL on my Windows 10.

• Oct 28, 2016 - 01:06

I've been frantically trying to get MuseScore to work on my Windows 10 PC again ever since an update.
I've viewed a bunch of different threads including: https://musescore.org/en/node/99886 , https://musescore.org/en/node/84146#comment-376406 , https://musescore.org/en/node/92116 .

Basically there is a batch script by somebody called ABL and I have attached a file containing information on the problems I've been having. If I can have any information to help me guide and solve this problem I would be extremely grateful.

Some useful information: I don't have windows firewall active, mainly because I can't, but I refuse to accept that Musescore can only work with the windows firewall active.

I also had a similar problem, with a video game, where Windows 10 wouldn't allow a certain type of text/font to be enabled through the firewall protection. I fixed this by contacting the staff and emailing back and fourth until we found a solution.

Also, when I say Musescore refuses to open, I mean it doesn't register at all. I've downloaded the portable version and it still doesn't work. It doesn't even show up in the task manager.

I absolutely need to get Musescore working on my PC again. It's a large part of how I create my music and I'm not prepared to pay Sebalius a ton of money for the same service that Musescore can arguably do the same or even better.

I'm not sure I understand the log, but it appears to be saying there is a problem with the audio causing it to abort. So first thing I'd try is a revert to factory settings - running with the -F option. Also try -s to disable the audio to see if that doesn't at least allow it to startup.

I believe the key line in that debug log is:

Debug: Stop I/O (C:\Git_packages\MuseScore\mscore\seq.cpp:246, void Ms::Seq::exit())

Hmm, maybe not, this does get called during a plain and normal exit from MuseScore, but the following looks bad:

Debug: Mscore: fatal error: cannot load internal font <:/fonts/MuseJazz.ttf> (C:\Git_packages\MuseScore\libmscore\mscore.cpp:213, static void Ms::MScore::init())
Debug: Mscore: fatal error: cannot load internal font <:/fonts/FreeSans.ttf> (C:\Git_packages\MuseScore\libmscore\mscore.cpp:213, static void Ms::MScore::init())

And points at a corrupted installation.
But also check https://musescore.org/en/handbook/known-incompatibilities#software-inco…, esp. the 2 entries for Windows 10 (reg. Nitro Pro and Creative Sound Blaster Z Series ASIO driver).
Also I do remember some issue about Windows 10, installation of MuseScore and having Firewall en- or disabled before/after, need to dig up the details

Ah, here it is: #99886: MuseScore 2.0.2 won't start on Windows 10 if Windows Firewall was not running during install

I'm pretty sure this is your issue, and you've been looking at it since the 1st post of this thread.
