Skipping empty measures on score playback

• Nov 3, 2016 - 23:34

I am using MS 2.0.3 to transcribe a long, multiple-song suite for chorus with accompaniment. I like to provide my singers with MuseScores with just the VOCAL parts, to use as learning tools for at-home rehearsals. I have created a score that only includes those parts.

The issue: there are several places in the suite where there is an extended musical interlude where the Chorus is not singing. In order for the measure numbers to match up with the full score, I have to include those measures in the score, even though they are not singing them. I understand that VISUALLY, the measures can be collapsed down and shown in the printed scores as "condensed rests"-- but I can't figure out a way to EXCLUDE those measures for score playback.

Example: Say that I have a song with 32 measures, with the voices singing during the first16 measures, then comes an 8 measure accompaniment-only interlude, and then the chorus sings again for the final 8 measures. If I actually REMOVE the interlude measures, then the measure numbering is screwed up from that point going forward. If I leave them IN, then each time they play back the score to rehearse, they have to sit there for 8 measures waiting for the player to count through the silence. Not optimal!

I'm hoping there is an easy way to make this work, but I haven't been able to find anything about it in the handbook or online. Help?

You can stop searchinw, there is no such feature. You can however remove those empty measures and then adjust the measure numbers, so they stoll show the correct numbers, right click into the measure, measure properties, add to measure number
