Playback is up a Semitone

• Nov 22, 2016 - 16:30

So basically, I am making a new song in Ab major; however, during playback, it was in A major!
I didn't understand what was going on. So I decided to start up a new score but the problem was still there!
I even tried reinstalling Musescore all over again, but the playback was still up a semitone!

I don't understand what's going on, if anyone knows what this issue is, or knows a solution to this problem, then pls tell me ASAP, cos it is hindering my progress in composing!!!

Warm regards,

There aren't a lot of instruemnts that sound a semitone higher than written. but Db piccolo is one. It's possible some bagpipe or other is another. If you are using one of these, that would explain it - it's the correct behavior for instruments that sound a semitone higher in real life as well.

If you are *not* using one of these instruments, then indeed, we would need you to post the score you are having trouble with the understand what might be going on.

Another to check: be sure you haven't set the master tuning in MuseScore to something higher than 440 (see View / Synthesizer). Also make sure you aren't using some sort of non-standard soundfont (same dialog) that is preset to a higher pitch. Finally, make sure the piuano or other instrument you are comparing against isn't out of tune!

What are you comparing the MuseScore playback with? If it's with a piano or a song you got off the internet etc. then MuseScore may not be the one that is wrong. If it's against a tuning fork or other calibrated sound source then - as stated above - please post the score so that others can compare.

Sry guys so much for kicking up such a commotion :P
I just found out that my piano was actually very out of tune, so much that is a semitone down!

I thought the sound produced by the piano was in Ab major, and that the sound during playback was in A major! Seems like I was wrong and it was instead that my piano was actually sounding at B major!

Could have fixed this issue by trying out a virtual keyboard online :/

Thx you guys so much for your support, I appreciate it!
