Midi Imput

• Jan 2, 2012 - 18:10

I am a highschool musician that is not very good with rhythms yet as my old teacher taught us how to repeat music rather than read it. I am planning on buying a midi keyboard to help with composing on Musescore. I heard that you just can't play and have the notes and rhythms pop up on the screen. Could you get around this by using another software that makes midi files and then playing your music in rhythm to a tempo then importing that midi into Musescore? I realize the software probably wouldn't be 100% correct in reading things such as triplets but is there any chance of this working?

What you are asking for is very difficult to implement, as you will discover if you search the forums here. It has been discussed many times. This is not to discourage you, but to give you some idea as to the answer to your question. There are ways to do what you ask, but as MIDI doesn't contain a method to transfer much of the necessary information, people find out that it is better to just notate the music and not worry about trying to use MIDI.

As a musician, I have found that music, as well as being in time, takes time. So, there is no real "short cut" to music, all technologies try to make it easier, but the best method I have found is to practise, whether on the instrument or notating pieces. It all becomes easier the more you do it.

I want to encourage you to continue to work and improve.

Best regards, and Happy New Year,

Well thanks for clearing that up. I might as well give it a try and see what happens but I won't expect much but I guess I could still use the keyboard for normal input if i decide to keep it. But you are correct, I need to practice more to get my counting down because that would help with rhythms.
