"SPLITTING" a measure

• Jan 23, 2012 - 14:41

So I'm trying to create a 3/4 sheet in here. I intend to place on the first staff ONLY the introduction. My problem though is that the introduction ends in between the measure, part of the measure is on the intro and the other part is the beginning of the accompaniment. The stretch feature doesn't seem to work because it joins all the components within the measure all the time.
Is there a feature that allows me to "split" the measure so I could accomplish what I intend to do?
I frequently use Musescore only for making MIDIs before so I really don't have much knowledge about it's template-sheet functionalities.
Please do help me.
Many thanks.

Could you post a picture of what you mean, or describe it more detail? I'm not understanding you are trying to do. Are you referring to a pickup measure, aka anacrusis, where the first measure is only a partial measure (only one or two beats)? If so, see http://musescore.org/en/handbook/measure-operations. Note the Create New Score wizard would have done this automatically had you selected that option.

It isn't necessary to split a measure. Simply add a measure next to the one you wanted to split then change the time signature.
For Example if you had a measure "4/4 | 1 2 3 4 |" and you wanted to split it then add another measure before or after it and change the time signature to "2/4 | 1 2 | 1 2 |"
To split 3/4 measure add a measure before or after the measure you want to split and change the time signature to 3/8.
If you had a measure that only had one beat I would recommend adding a beat to the previous measure and adding the one beat to it. Example "4/4 |1 2 3 4 |" + "1/4 | 1 |" = "5/4 | 1 2 3 4 5 |"
You could do any mathematical time signature combinations to get the desired beats you want in the desired measures.
