Move between staffs (move up/down??)

• Jan 31, 2012 - 17:47

I may have misunderstood, does the "move up / down" supposed to transfer the cursor to the upper or lower instrument?
because if it does, its not working for me, And if Its supposed to do something else, then i'm suggesting to make a keyboard shortcut to move between staffs/instruments.
By the way, thank you for your very cool and free program, the sounds are great!

I mean ctrl+shift+up/down wich is called "move up"/"down" in the shortcuts menu..
Any way I figured what it does, it moves a note between tow staffs in a dual staff instrument - like piano foe example.

My question / suggestion is: an action for moving the blue cursor between instruments.
for example: I wright for orchestra, so I move a lot in the same bar between different instruments and it would be very helpful to be able to do this without the mouse. this way the composing process is faster and smoother.

There is no way to move between staves directly, but alt+up/down moves to the next note above or below. It could be in the same staff or a different staff., and doesn't help you reach a staff if there isn't already a note there, but it's something. The ability to move to.a different staff more directly would be appreciated by others as well, and has been requested before, so hopefully some day.

I'd like to second the suggestion for a kb shortcut that toggles the cursor between the staves, whether there are notes in them or not. I think Tab would be a good key for that, as it currently just switches between the note and some random element up in the toolbar.

Also, a good command to have a kb shortcut for would be the "Enable sound while editing" - this is a command that I personally toggle on and off quite frequently when I work with MS, and it would be very convenient to not have to use the mouse for that every time.

Cheers :)

Dear Friends,

I think I found a bug. This command works fine except when you try to move a stack of whole notes as I tried in one voicing exercise. Notes other than selected moves along to the ohter staff. With half, quarter and other values it works fine.

Best,

Julio

Dear Marc,

I'm refering to cross staff thing. I'm used to Finale that have a function called "Note Mover" where you can move (in a piano score) JUST THE LOWER NOTE of, for instance, a triad to the lower staff. I tried this on MS (SHIFT + COMMAND + down arrow on Mac) and I got all the notes moved to the lower staff. I understand now that this is not a bug at all, since MS do this consistently for all values. I was wrong but I'm still needing a note mover equivalent in MS.

Thanks for your great job here and in "Jazz Improvsation Primer".

Regards,

Julio
