MuseScore2 keeps reverting to old MuseScore.9

• Nov 30, 2016 - 18:41

I write music in MuseScore2, which I have been doing for months. However, suddenly when I email copies of the sheet music, the recipient cannot open them. I have emailed them to myself and the message appears 'your version is too old MuseScore.9'. I have tried downloading a new MuseScore2 app and tried repairing, but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions, anyone?

To elaborate:

What you are describing is not a problem with MuseScore - it is a problem with the file associations on your computer, as managed by your operating system (eg, Windows, Mac OS, or Linux) or your mail program (eg, Gmail, Outlook, etc). That is, when you try to open a file directly from an email message, then the email program tries to determine what application to use, and for some reason, your email program is deciding to use an older version of MuseScore even though a newer one is available.

The picture/instructions in the message above show how to fix this for some Windows systems, the details will different for other Windows systems or for other OS's and probably also depend on what email program you are using.

You can bypass all that by not trying to open scores directly from your email program. Instead, save them, then start MuseScore 2 normally and open the score from within MuseScore. But yeah, you probably will want to sort out the file association issue as well.

Thank you for your comments, I have Windows 10. I have right clicked on the MuseScore app but do not get Agri.com
I can open the music but, it the recipients I have emailed who cannot open them. I have tested this by sending an email to myself or my husband and that is when I get the message that I a opening in Muse.9 and it says system too old.
