Chord height uneven

• Feb 15, 2012 - 12:45

After creating a one-page lead sheet, I made a few minor changes to both notes and chord symbols. Now the chord heights are uneven. Is there any way to reset them to be all the same? I tried deleting them all and retyping, but they still come out uneven. Manually moving them one by one would be a huge hassle.

No cause I threw it away. I tried to reproduce the problem, and was able to reproduce only the misplaced lyrics, but the chords were ok. But I understand now, at least partly, the problem with the lyrics. If I double click on a syllable, and type from there, the cursor goes straight on at the same height. (Before it would jump up and down as I went across the page. It was a similar situation with the chord symbols.) But if I select a note and then hit Control L, it places the lyrics farther down, as if it's another verse. I guess it's supposed to. But I no longer have the jumping up and down, so I guess there's currently not a problem. I hope this made some sense.

I bet I know what happened. The chords that appear to low are the ones that MuseScore didn't recognize because you did not type them correctly according to the chord name style you are using. For instance, if the chord name style you are using expects "m" for minor but you type "-", the result is an unrecognized chord. Not only will it appear lower, but also, any "#" or "b" signs won't be converted to sharps and flats, nor will the chord transposed properly.

The solution is to to enter the chord correctly according the chord style you are using. There are several to choose from (see the section on chord names in the handbook) so hopefully one will match how you like to enter your chords. It's actually possible to customzie those styles yourself as well by editing the XML files directly, but I don't recommend it unless you have a real need, as the work may end up being lost each time you upgrade to a new version, and your mscz files won't appear the same on other people's systems (pdf's will, of course).
