How do I get a piece of music published?

We are doing ensembles in our band, but they have to be published. Just so I can do this before next school year; how do I get my composition published? (It was made using non-copyrighted music)

It would help to understand the actual requirement here. Who says they have to be "published" - some regional competition you wish to enter, perhaps? How is the rule worded?

I ask because *legally*, as far as copyright goes, merely posting something to musescore.com (or anywhere else where others can access it) would constitute publishing. But that might not saitisfy the rule you are attempting to adhere to.

BTW, there is no such thing as "non-copyrighted music", reallym unless you mean, music old enough to be "public domain" (eg, music composed in the 19th century or earlier). But anything written recently is copyrighted the moment it is written down or recorded. At least, that's how things work generally - for specifics, you'd need to consult a lawyer familiar with the laws of your country.
