Continuous Mode - Bar Numbers

• Feb 24, 2012 - 16:20

It has now been implemented - thanks!

I wanted to ask about bar numbers though - will they be included?

Using MuseScore 2.0 Nightly Build (5371) - Mac 10.6.8.

Wow, I'm really looking forward to trying this out when it shows up in a Windows build!

As for measure numbers, my expectation might be that one shows on the score for the left-most visible measure, but I'm also fine with showing them in the status bar somewhere.

Just installed 5375 - really nice! I'm very excited to have this to look forward to. A few more observations, though:

- Yes, measure numbers would be very nice. For now, I'm just turning them on every measure using the regular Style settings, and this works fine. I figure I can reset this when I'm done.

- The Navigator is kind of useless in this view. It would be cool if it could actually be updated as well to show essentially the same sort of thing it does now - an overview of the whole score with a blue rectangle indicating what's being displayed - but actually showing the full score as a strip instead of pages. With that, I might not even care so much about measure numbers.

- It would be nice if Palettes pane could be docked to the top or bottom of the screen using some sort of horizontal layout, to allow more room for the score while in this mode. Might be more trouble than it's worth, though, given that I can always hide or undock it if I want.

- As for switching in and out of this mode, a toggle button like we have for Concert Pitch would be preferable to a drop down, unless there are plans to add more modes as well. I'll probably always use a keyboard shortcut in any case, though. And I found it in preferences: Toggle View Mode (also suggesting a toggle button rather than a drop down). I set it to F4 and am happy.

Again, a big thumbs up on this - a very welcome improvement!

My thought exactly. I figure a new option should be added to Edit General Style/Headers Footers, under Measure Numbers. Default to displaying measure numbers every 5 bars, and allow this to be changeable.

There is still a lot more fixes and changes to go, but a great start to Continuous mode! Navigation is going to be a big issue.

Yes, a choice is probably the best solution. Would still probably look strange.

Just curiously, are there any published scores in this format that have bar numbers?

Are you asking if the display of bar numbers would look strange, or the option? I think bar numbers is critical for this mode of input, esp for navigation.

And no, I don't think continuous mode is a publishing format, it is for easy computerized note entry only.

Maybe a double-page spread, or an electronic delivery :).

The appearance of the numbers would look strange, even though we need them for reference.
