adding an eighth rest above a quarter note
I am a beginner user of Musescore. I'm trying to put in an eighth rest above a quarter note because the quarter note carries over to the next eighth note and Musescore keeps automatically removing the rest. Is this an autocorrect feature that I can turn off? I've added a jpg excerpt of what I'm trying to do. Hope that helps understanding.

Sounds like you are talking about music containing multiple voices - different rhythms simultaneously on the same staff. See the Handbook under "Voices" to learn how to do this in MuseScore.
