When applying crescendo, should it stop in the next bar?

1. Create 4/4 score.
2. Enable 'Note Entry'.
3. Enter four crotchets.
4. Disable 'Note Entry'.
5. Drag a crescendo onto the first crotchet.
6. Double-click the crescendo.
7. Click on the final blue square.

Result: The anchor indicates that the crescendo ends in the next bar.

Using MuseScore 1.2 (Pre-release 1) and 2.0 Nightly Build (5433) - Mac 10.6.8.

Should the crescendo end in the next bar? Is there a reason for it not to end on the final crotchet?

The reason I ask this is because if you delete to the second bar, the crescendo deletes as well. I'm not sure if this is rightful behaviour.

I would think that no matter what was chosen for the default, you'd want to override it as often as not using shift-arrow. So I don't see that it matters too much what is chosen as a default. But I never drag to create hairpins; I use the shortcut H. And for some reason, that has a different default - it does to the next note only, just like "S" does for slurs. It probably would make sense for both methods of adding crescendos to work the same, but it doesn't really matter to me which, since there is only the smallest of chances I won't need to override the default whatever it is.
