Hiding Instruments/Staves

• May 7, 2012 - 22:53

Hi folks,

Is it possible to hide certain instruments or staves so they are still included in midifile export but not printed.

I often write a simple drum track that I want to be included in the midi file but not printed. I've done this before in both Finale and Lilypond, but can't see a way to do this in Musescore.

I've used part extract but this means is a fiddley thing to have to do this everytime I make some changes.

Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks to you all for your input and support.

Mark.

Not sure *how* you are using part extract, but the way I do it is to define a part called "print score" that contains everything except the staves you want to be for playback only. Then just don't extract that part until you are essentially done. Sure, you'll have to re-extract it if you later makes changes after printing, but then, you'd have to re-extract any of the affected individual parts as well, so it's really not adding much complexity. 2.0 will include linked parts which should eliminate the need for re-extracting things, assuming it allows this trick at all. not sure how it will like having staves be in two different parts (their own as well as the print score).
