Playback of a staff instrument from a MIDI keyboard or the virtual piano keyboard

In non-note-input mode, when you select a measure (by clicking on a space within the measure) you can play the staff instrument from a MIDI keyboard (or the virtual piano keyboard). But if you click on a note or rest the sound always defaults to the first staff in the system.

Is there any reason this shouldn't be changed so that even if you click on a note/rest (in non-note-input mode) you can still hear the sound of the selected staff (as you would when selecting a measure)?
