Distorted MIDI playback

• May 22, 2012 - 01:32

Hello,

I'm new to this program but I'm encountering playback issues. Whenever I try to play back a composition I'm working on, the play back is horrible. It's choppy, laggy, and distorted. I've checked my MIDI driver (Realtek HD Audio) but I have no clue how to fix this. I searched on the forum and didn't really find anything immediately...I'm really excited about having composition software again, and I'd hate to be shot down due to my driver...Help please?

THank you!

Try adjusting the Reverb return in the Synthesiser Window.

That has been known to cure this.

If not, come bcak here and we'll try to sort it for you.

There is, however, a possibility that you are one of the unfortunate few with a Realtek driver incompatibility.

In that case, you will be pleased to know that the problem appears to be fixed in the soon to be released 2.0 version.

I have the same problem (and yes, my audio drivers are by Realtek). Setting the reverb values to 0 cures this temporarily. The sound is excellent, but I'm puzzled about one thing: There seems to be no way to set those 0 values as defaults. I never use reverb or chorus on playback, and don't want to, but when I restart MuseScore the three reverb values have each returned to 0.50, i.e. the sliders are in the center. In the synthesizer dialog, the Save button to the right of the Presets drop-down box doesn't help, and in fact, the drop-down box shows "Not Implemented". Is there no way to keep the values at 0? I seem to remember having done that in an earlier version, which I no longer have.

By the way, I'm running MuseScore 1.2, Revision 5470 on a netbook with Windows 7, and my sound font is FluidR3_GM.sf2, if this makes any difference.

I had the same problem with a fresh install in Ubuntu Studio 12.04, MuseScore 1.2. I used the recommendation and the problem is resolved with the work around. Thanks.

No sound is different from distorted sound, the topic at hand here.
You're probably better of starting a new thread or searching for one with the same symptoms.
Maybe you got bitten by #22727: Musescore mistakenly suspends pulseaudio on Ubuntu, which leads to http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=667845
And you may want to find a way to upgrade to 1.3, although this might not be as easy as one would wish for on Debian...

I seem to be having the same problem. I'm very confused because it seems no one's complained about it for a few years. It sounds good when I first start the program, but after about 3 measures it starts stuttering and lagging. The problem is very recent.
