Transposing just one staff

• Jun 14, 2012 - 14:50

I am trying to create a song for trumpet, violin and piano. I want to create all three lines in the key signature of the C instruments, then transpose one of the lines for a Bflat instrument. Can this be done in Muse?

I just tried that by right-clicking the instrument's name at the far left and selecting Staff Properties. I was then able to transpose the respective instrument up or down in octaves, or by a specified interval. The key signature also changed automatically.

However, since I don't usually write for transposing instruments, I can't tell you much more.

On score creation just add the instruments you need, Bb Trumpet, Violin and Piano in a key of C. Togglng 'concert pitch' will then change the Bb-Trumpet staff to C and back.

Right. Assuming you told MuseScore when you created the score that one of the instruments was a Bb Trumpet, then it should *already* be set up to automatically transpose it visually (sound of course remains the same) when you toggle the Concert Pitch button.

if you originally created the score for a different instrument but now wish to change it into a Bb trumpet, then make sure Concert Pitch is currently on, right click somewhere on the staff in question, go to Staff Properties, and then click Change Instrument. Select Bb Trumpet, hit OK, and it will now be set to automatically transpose when you toggle the Concert Pitch button.
