Which version of MuseScore are you using ? In MuseScore 1.2, to insert a pedal sign that will be played by MuseScore, you need to use a Pedal line. Check the Lines palette and the help page for Line
in particular to change the line length.
If you need further support, it's better to use the forum. The issue tracker is reserved for actual issues and feature requests.
I put this issue on "closed", thus it will not appear by default in the tracker anymore.
